Brio Room is a small-group tuition centre. Every lane is capped at six students, every session ends with marked work going home, and every family sees the same tutor each week for the whole term.
01 — Subject lanes
Each lane has its own level, cap and evening. Students can sit in two lanes a week; most take one and add study hours.
Lane 01
Number fluency first, then the written method. Tutors reteach the step that broke rather than the whole topic, and each student keeps a running error log.
Lane 02
Paragraph shape, evidence and sentence control. Students write in the session, get it marked in the session, and redraft one paragraph before they leave.
Lane 03
Required practicals, equation recall and six-mark answers. We follow the school's board and keep a shared sheet of the command words that lose marks.
Lane 04
Timed comprehension, non-verbal reasoning and the maths papers that sit slightly ahead of school. Two mock sittings are built into the term, not sold separately.
Lane 05
For students who can decode but stall on meaning. Short texts, read aloud, questioned out loud, then a written answer. Books go home each week with a page target.
Lane 06
A drop-in lane for the weeks before papers. Students bring the question they could not finish; the tutor works it through on the board and sets two more like it.
02 — Inside the room
There is no lecture and no screen at the front. Students sit around a single table so the tutor can see every page at once.
The first ten minutes are a short recall task on last week's work, done in silence. The middle forty-five are taught: one idea, modelled on the board, then practised at the table while the tutor moves round marking as students go.
The last twenty are independent. Students start the week's set work in the room, so the part they get stuck on happens where someone can help. Whatever is left goes home with a note on the page saying exactly where to pick it up.
03 — How a term runs
Nothing starts until we know where the gaps are. Placement is free and takes about forty minutes.
Stage 01
A short written paper sat in the room, plus a ten-minute talk with a parent. We are looking for the earliest point the method breaks, not a score.
Stage 02
You get a single page: the lane, the tutor, the eleven topics in order, and the two weeks we will use to go back over anything that has not held.
Stage 03
Same evening, same tutor, same seat. Marked work goes home each week with a short line on what improved and what to practise.
Stage 04
A plain-English page at week eleven: what the student can now do unaided, what still needs a prompt, and whether the next term should change lane.
04 — Weekly timetable
Sessions run for 75 minutes. Arrive five minutes early; the recall task starts on the hour.

SaturdayMornings only

05 — Supervised study hours
Enrolled students can use the 19:30 study hour on any teaching evening at no extra cost. A tutor is in the room to keep it quiet and answer a question, not to teach a second lesson.
06 — Questions
By the placement task, not by school year alone. A Year 8 student who is secure with fractions but not with algebra will usually be placed in the lane where the next topic is genuinely new, even if that is a year either side of their age group. We will tell you honestly if we think school support is enough and tuition is not needed yet.
The week's materials and the marked work are kept for you to collect, and the student can use a study hour that week to catch up with a tutor in the room. Where a repeat lane runs the same week — Maths and English both do — we will move the student into it if there is a seat.
Yes. Lanes are staffed for the full eleven weeks so the tutor knows the error log rather than rereading it each week. If a tutor is ill, the cover tutor gets the same term plan and marked books, and we tell you before the session rather than after.
One set task a week, sized to about thirty minutes, and it is started in the room. We would rather a short piece came back finished and honest than a long one came back copied. If school homework is already heavy that week, tell the tutor and they will cut the set task down.
For Years 10 and 11 we do — bring the board and tier when you enquire and we will match past papers and mark schemes to it. Below Year 10 we teach the method rather than a specification, because the content is broadly shared and the gaps are almost always in the method.
Yes. After the placement task you can sit one full session in the lane we have suggested before the term fee is due. The student joins the table as normal and takes the marked work home. If it is not the right fit, nothing is owed.
07 — Enquire
Tell us the year group and the subject that is causing trouble. We will reply with the lanes that still have seats, the evening they run, and a time for the free placement task.
If we think a lane is wrong for your child, we will say so and suggest what would help instead.
